Billings 7, Salt Lake 5
BILLINGS – The longest winning streak in professional baseball history is history at 29 games. The Billings Mustangs – taking a page out of Trappermania with a six run first inning – outlasted SaltLake 7-5.
Trapper starter Yasuhiro Hiyama lasted only eight batters – 2/3 inning – but gave up all six first inning runs before being spelled by Niles Creekmore, who went six innings. Tim Peters finished the game for the Trappers pitching the last 1 1/3 innings.
The Trappers scared Billings in the first with two runs and runners on second and third when the third out was made, but after the Mustangs six-run first it was a chore to catch up.
Neil Reynolds and Mike Malinak led the Trapper hitters. Reynolds going 3-for-5 including a third-inning homer and Malinak 3-for-4 with two doubles and a sixth inning home run.
