“The Streak” Game 3 – June 27, 1987

Salt Lake 9 – Idaho Falls 8 (10)

Jon Leake ended a Trapper rally in the ninth inning when he went down swinging, but made up for his miscue an inning later, blooping a two-strike, two-out single to right driving home Dave Ward giving Salt Lake a 9-8 10-inning victory.  After giving up one run in the top of the 10th inning, the Trappers rallied when Adam Casillas singled and Ward reached based on an Idaho Falls error.  Jim Ferguson kept the rally going with an infield single.  Neil Reynolds reached first on another Idaho Falls error before Leake popped his game winner.

The Trappers had things seeming under control after unleashing a multi-run extravaganza in the third inning.  Ward and slumping Steve Scott got things off and running with a double and single.  Anthony Blackmon loaded the bases with a walk and Neil Reynold gave the Trappers another run by drawing another walk.  Leake then lined a two-run single to right making it 4-2, and Mike Malinak blasted a two-run triple to give the Trappers a 6-2 advantage before Idaho Falls fought back to take the lead.
