Salt Lake 7, Idaho Falls 2
The Trappers took two giant steps towards professional baseball consecutive win record at Derks Field with a doubleheader sweep of the Idaho Falls Braves. Adam Casillas two-run, pinch-hit single in the sixth inning keyed a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
Trapper Manager Jim Gilligan who was worried about two seven inning games had cause for concern. Salt Lake took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning, but the Braves figured out reliever Tim Peters to cut the advantage to 3-2. Fortunately, the Trapper manager didn’t have to worry for long. Peters quashed the rally with a strikeout and a harmless grounder to short, and the Salt Lake bats rode to the rescue in the bottom of the inning with a four-run, three-hit outburst aided by two Idaho Falls errors.
Frank Colston led off the frame with a single. Matt Huff followed with an infield hit. After Mike Malinak loaded the bases on an error, pinch hitter Casillas stepped up and ripped a single to right to knock in two and make it 5-2. A bad throw to the plate on a squeeze bunt by Dave Ward scored Malinak, and a follow-up single by Jim Ferguson allowed Casillas to cross the plate and make it 7-2.
