“The Streak” Game 22 – July 19, 1987

Salt Lake 9, Pocatello 4

POCATELLO – The Trappers were handed a nine-run head start after four innings and coasted to a 9-4 victory.  All nine Trapper runs were unearned including a three-run home run by Ed Citronnelli in the fourth.

Salt Lake pitcher Kent Hetrick improved his record to 5-1, scattering nine hits, walking four, and striking out four in 6 1/3 innings. Reliever Niles Creekmore shut down a Giant rally in the seventh inning,  securing the win for Hetrick.

Matt Huff opened the Trappers second with a double and then scored on a Giant error that put Citronnelli on first base.  Mike Malinak walked and Citronnelli scored on single by Anthony Blackmon.  Dave Ward was safe on another Giant error that scored Malinak.  Jim Ferguson then singled scoring Blackmon. Jon Leake’s two out single scored Ward, giving the Trappers a 5-0 advantage.

In the fourth inning, Ferguson drew a walk and Adam Casillas was safe on yet another Giant error.  Huff then singled scoring Furguson and Citronnelli’s long three-run shot put SaltLake ahead 9-0.
