“The Streak” Game 18 – July 13, 1987

Salt Lake 12, Medicine Hat 6

Matt Huff’s two home runs and four runs batted in supported the strong pitching of starter Kent Hetrick as the Salt Lake Trappers pounded Medicine Hat12-6 at Derks Field.

The Trappers started the scoring with a seven-run second inning, highlighted by Huff’s three run home run.  Huff’s leadoff home run and Dave Ward’s RBI double in the bottom of the fifth increased the Trappers edge to 9-3.  The Traps picked up one run in the sixth and picked up two insurance runs in the seventh.  Mike Malinak picked up an RBI with a ground out and Adam Casillas knocked in the other with a single.

Tim Peters came out of the bullpen to close a rally in the seventh.  He breezed through the final two innings to save it for Hetrick.

Salt Lake is one win away from tying the Pioneer League record for consecutive victories, set in 1980 by Lethbridge, Alberta.
